Reaching Choquequirao takes at least 4 days. In this tour it is possible to know the constructions and the urban organization of the Incas. The only way to get to Choquequirao, so far, is through the hiking route of 31 kilometers properly. This trek starts in Cachora in Abancay, Apurimac. The distance from this district to Cusco is 165 kilometers, a 4 to 5 hour trip by minivan or bus. From the moment you start walking you can appreciate the beautiful landscapes of the Peruvian Andes. The climate is temperate which will facilitate our journey, the highest altitude point will be Marampata at 3000 meters above sea level.

Itinerary
Day 1
Cusco | Playa Rosalina

Pick up from the hotel, travel from Cusco to Cachora, where the hiking route begins. The first night is spent at Playa Rosalina, on the banks of the Apurímac River.

Day 2
Playa Rosalina | Choquequirao

Breakfast at the camp where we spent the night, we head towards Marampata where we have lunch and continue to the entrance of Choquequirao.

Day 3
Choquequirao | Chiquisca

We will have breakfast and then enter the archaeological site of Choquequirao. The guide will explain and show us the circuit to visit the entire site, after which we will begin the return trip. Tonight we will rest in Chiquisca.

Day 4
Chiquisca | Cusco

We will have breakfast, after which we will take the last stretch to reach Capuliyoq, very close to Cachora. Here our transport to Cusco will be waiting for us.


Itinerary

Day 1
Cusco | Playa Rosalina
  • We will always care about the safety of our travelers, so we start by picking you up from the door of your hotel in Cusco. This is done after coordinating the schedule. The pick-up time will be between 5:00 and 5:30 in the morning. After that, together with our travel companions, we will head towards Cachora.
  • The journey time is 4 to 5 hours to reach Cachora. Once there we will have time to pack our belongings and give the rest to the team of porters who will accompany us along with a cook.
  • At lunchtime, after approximately 2 hours of walking, we will arrive at our first campsite where lunch will be ready. From this moment we will be able to enjoy the seasoning of our cook and appreciate the beautiful valley of Apurímac.
  • After a short rest and relaxation, we continue our journey to the campsite that will be located in the area known as La Playa Rosalina. Here our dinner will be waiting for us and the camp will be ready for us to rest and spend the night. All of this will be taken care of by the porters and the cook.
Day 2
Playa Rosalina | Choquequirao
  • After breakfast, we will leave the camp to follow an uphill route for about 2 hours. We will stop at the Santa Rosa campsite. Here we can rest from the arduous climb, contemplating the beautiful valley we leave behind.
  • After this short break we will continue our journey for at least 3 more hours until we reach the Marampata camp. Here it will be time to rest and recharge our batteries with lunch for the day. This will be the highest point of the trail at 3,000 masl / 9,842 ft.
  • After lunch, we will have more time to rest. After that, we will walk to the access area to Choquequirao, where we will be allowed to camp. Here we will have dinner and spend the night, so that the next day we can enter the archaeological site of Choquequirao.
Day 3
Choquequirao | Chiquisca
  • Although we are eager to visit this place, we will have to have breakfast first. Admission to Choquequirao is via a ticket, which is already included in our package.
  • We will enter accompanied by our guide, who will show us and explain the importance of this place and the value of the buildings. We will visit, for example, the Main Square, the House of the Falling Water, Plaza Hanan, the viewing points and the area of ​​the platforms with figures of llamas.
  • We will take a complete tour of Choquequirao and understand the social and political importance of this place. After that, we will return to our camp where lunch will be served. Remember that if you want a vegetarian option, you will have to request it when making your reservation (it will not include extra prices).
  • After a proper rest, we will begin the return route. We will walk until we reach our camp where we will have the tents set up and ready so we can rest. We will also have dinner waiting for us, this sector is known as Chiquisca.
Day 4
Chiquisca | Cusco
  • On the last day we will start early with breakfast, just like the previous days. After that we will head to the Wayna Qali viewpoint, from where you can see the entire Apurímac canyon.
  • After the tour of the viewpoint, we will walk for about 3 hours until we reach our starting point in Cachora. Before finishing our walk, we will have lunch in Capuliyoq and say goodbye to the cook and group of porters.
  • Finally, we will board our tourist transport to return to Cusco. After prior coordination, we can leave you at the door of your hotel or a central location.
